Is White Interior Paint Still in Style?
It may feel like a bland option, but white interior paint (and gray too) have won the paint color popularity contest for a long, long time. Don’t be fooled, though: white isn’t just white. There are a million (maybe literally?) shades, hues, and tints, from clinical and crisp to buttery and warm. All under the umbrella of white interior paint, but each a little different.
So, why white?
Well, mostly because it is such a versatile neutral. It never competes for attention, but instead offers a clean backdrop for every other color, pattern, texture, or material you could want. It’s an especially good pick for people who prefer a brighter decor, leaning on artwork, rugs, and furniture to meet all their color cravings. White walls just work.
White interior paint is still in style, but…
Just like a blue blazer, that little black dress, and the Toyota Camry, white paint has been around a long time and isn’t going anywhere. So go ahead: pick all those cool neutrals on your wishlist.
With that said, white will also never be a statement or a focal point. It’s a safe pick that contributes to an overall vibe, but it isn’t a “fun” color. And right now, fun colors are definitely in.
Warmer, bolder interior paint colors are trending for 2023
The pendulum has swung back the other way, leaving gray and white behind to favor bold, deeper paint colors. Honestly, we’re loving it. As professional painters, we’re big believers in the idea that paint should reflect your personality, your taste, and your style, walking a bit more on the daring side.
Need some inspiration?
Here’s Sherwin-Williams’ 2023 paint color of the year: Redend Point. “It’s if beige could blush,” says Sue Wadden , the color marketing director at Sherwin-Williams. “It’s a pink-undertone neutral that is warm and earthy, and it has a certain softness and soothing quality to it that is really unique.”
Or how about Raspberry Blush, Benjamin Moore’s 2023 paint pick? “Never a backdrop, Raspberry Blush is the definition of charismatic color,” says Andrea Magno, the paint company’s director of color marketing and development. “This unapologetic shade of red-orange had us thinking: bold, bolder, boldest.”
